"Wonderful" Mixed Media Layout with Craft&You Design

Hello, creative friends!

Today, I’m excited to share a new mixed media layout created using the stunning "Paint over the Winter" collection by Craft&You Design. This project, titled "Wonderful" was inspired by the warm and nostalgic feelings that winter can evoke, paired with a vintage, cinematic aesthetic.

Inspiration & Concept

The "Paint over the Winter" collection combines soft colors, delicate patterns, and cozy textures. I was drawn to its versatility and wanted to showcase how beautifully it works for a layout that combines warmth, storytelling, and creativity. This piece features a cherished photo, framed in a vintage style to evoke a timeless and sentimental feel.

Techniques & Materials

I layered elements from the "Paint over the Winter" collection, stamps, and dies with mixed media techniques to create depth and movement for this layout

Here’s how it all came together:

Background: I used a neutral paper with a vintage newspaper print as my base, layering light washes of turquoise and gray using Distress Ink for a frosty, wintery effect.

Chipboard details: The filmstrip, gears, and ticket chipboards were stained and distressed to fit the theme. These elements add both dimension and a nostalgic, cinema-inspired feel.

Photo frame: The monochrome photo is nestled in a faux filmstrip frame, enhancing the storytelling vibe of the layout.

Textures and accents: Stenciling, splashes of black ink, and stamped numbers add grungy details, creating a balance between vintage and modern aesthetics.

Title & sentiments: The "Wonderful" title is a chipboard piece painted in turquoise, chosen to contrast against the softer tones of the layout and make it stand out.

The "Paint over the Winter" collection

This collection from Craft&You Design is perfect for winter-themed projects, but it’s so versatile that you can adapt it to any season or mood. I love how the soft hues and subtle patterns allow for creativity without overwhelming the design.

Tips for creating a Similar look

Use layers to tell a story: Combine papers, embellishments, and textures to guide the viewer’s eye across your layout.
Don’t shy away from color accents: A pop of bold colour, like the turquoise in the title, can make your project dynamic.
Embrace imperfection: Stenciling, splashes, and distressed edges bring character and uniqueness to your layout.

This layout was such a joy to create, and I hope it inspires you to explore the beauty of the "Paint over the Winter" collection from Craft&You Design. Let your creativity flow and experiment with layers, textures, and personal touches!
